Album containing photographs and hand-written text documenting the early years of the relationship of Carol Peebley and Frank
Ward Gallo of Oakland and Castro Valley, Calif. before they were married in August of 1955. The album's text, likely written
by Carol, chronicles the highlights of the couple's courtship, from their teenage participation in Metropolitan Horsemen's
Association (M.H.A.) events in and around Oakland in 1950, to Frank's return home while on leave from the U.S. Air Force in
April of 1955. Photographs depict Carol's horseback riding groups; Frank and his friends during their service at Parks Air
Force Base (Alameda County) and Sheppard Air Force Base (Wichita County, Texas); scenes of Carol with horses at Pinto Ranch
and Wildwood Ranch; domestic scenes of Frank at his family's Castro Valley residence; Frank and friends during a sight-seeing
trip to Hoover Dam in 1954; and domestic scenes of Carol's family in 1955. None of the images depict the couple together.
Mounted on one leaf is an envelope containing a love letter sent from Frank to Carol in 1953. Album includes multiple drafts
of some portions of text, and several unused leaves. Laid in to the album were a substantial pigtail lock of Carol's hair,
cut in 1944, and Carol's Gold Seal Diploma from a Prize Baby Show conducted in 1938 by the Woman's Benefit Association, Oakland,
Calif.
